Trouble Installing Discs with Linux OS
If you are having issues installing a disc set on a Linux system, here are a few things you can try.
Installer will not launch:
- Try the latest version of the X-Plane installer from our website.
- If the installer will not run at all, run chmod u+x on it to make sure it is executable. If it still will not launch, run it from a terminal to collect error information.
Installation fails at some point:
- If the installer fails on a particular file of a given DVD, verify that the entire DVD is readable by copying its contents to your hard drive temporarily, or by running a shell command like md5 that will read from the entire DVD.
If the first DVD works correctly but subsequent DVDs are not recognized:
- During the installation process, you will be prompted to eject disc #1 and insert disc #2. Instead of using the eject button on the physical DVD tray, we recommend that Linux users right-click on the DVD icon and select "eject." (Sometimes using the tray button will result in two mounted DVD's, and the installer won't be able to find the new disc.)
- Quit running apps like the terminal that might prevent unmounting.
- Launch the installer from the user interface (UI) instead of the terminal. (Sometimes the terminal app will keep the first DVD mounted even after it has been physically ejected.)
