Setting the Rendering Options in X-Plane 11

Rendering is highly customizable in X-Plane 11. This allows our sim to run on machines that are top of the line and those from the past few years.

The video above does a great job of demonstrating both the method and results of changing rendering settings. Give it a watch!

Getting Started

It is best to start with a flight that represents the kind of flight that you normally fly. This will enable you to judge how your machine performs at a given rendering setting. A good example a detailed airport is Seattle Tacoma International Airport (KSEA). If you fly with third party aircraft or custom scenery, then use those when you set the rendering options.

One by One

It is best to work on your settings one by one. As Jennifer recommends in the video, work in this order while aiming to maintaining a frame rate of about 30fps.

  1. The number of World Objects
  2. Reflection Detail
  3. Visual Effects
  4. Texture Quality
  5. Finally Anti-aliasing

Our Manual

The X-Plane 11 manual is a great online resource for finding answers and solving problems. And best of all, its searchable. Go here and use your browser's find function or the Table of Contents to find more information.
