Tracing Vulkan Device Loss Crashes
These instructions are intended for Windows users running X-Plane 11.51b2 or newer, with a Nvidia GPU + latest drivers, that are experiencing Vulkan "device loss" crashes.
If you do not have X-Plane 11.51 (currently in beta testing), please follow these instructions first to opt into the beta.
For users who purchased X-Plane via digital key or DVD:
- Download the Aftermath.bat file.
- Move the Aftermath.bat file into your X-Plane 11.51 installation directory.
- Double click the Aftermath.bat file, which will launch X-Plane with Aftermath enabled.
- Note that using Aftermath will cause a FPS hit.
- Fly normally and wait for a device loss crash.
- When one occurs, the auto crash report form should open.
- Fill in your email address, then hit the Send button.
- Diagnostic information will automatically be sent to the X-Plane Development team.
- There are no steps necessary to revert and back out of using Aftermath, since it's only enabled when running from the bat file.
For users who purchased X-Plane via Steam:
- Right click on X-Plane 11 in your library.
- Select "Properties..."
- Go to the "General" tab in the new window.
- Click on "Set launch options..."
- Insert "--aftermath"
- Confirm with "Ok".
- Every time X-Plane launches afterwards, it'll have Aftermath enabled.

- When one occurs, the auto crash report form should open.
